The municipality of Kumrovec was constituted on May 6, 1997, when it separated from the municipality of Tuhelj. It is located in the western part of the Krapina-Zagorje County and lies along the left bank of the Sutla River, which is also the border with the Republic of Slovenia. It covers an area of ​​16 square kilometers. The first written documents in which the name Kumrovec is mentioned date from the 15th century, more precisely in 1463, when Kumrovec was one of the possessions of the Cesargrad of the Counts of Celje.
